Inxila

Inxila is a Xhosa term for a drunkard.


Ubhuti wakho linxila lokwenyani.
Translation: Your brother is a real drunkard.

Ndambo (Noun): is dollars ($) inflow, giving massively and changing narratives.

Ndambolist (Noun): is a person who turns others into millionaires and changer of narratives.

Ndambolisation (Verb): the process of turning others into instant millionaires and giving massively.

Ndambology (Noun): the scientific study of Ndambo.

A South African slang term for food / to eat.

A lunchbox; a portable, usually plastic, container for food, such as Tupperware.

Matric Dance

Also known as Matric Farewell - Is when grade 12 (last year of high school) learners have one final formal function, often followed by parties, underage drinking and bad decisions. Each school usually has its own dance and pupils usually come with a date and wear expensive suits and dresses.
Americans would call it prom


I don't know who I am going to take to the Matric Dance.

Cape Flats

The term Cape Flats refers to a flat, sandy stretch of land which is located on the outskirts of the city of Cape Town. It has been accurately described as the "dumping ground of apartheid" and it is here that people of colour (non-whites in "old South Africa" language) were relocated to in terms of the infamous Group Areas Act.


I am from the Cape Flats where we hear gunshots every night.



Mahala

A Zulu term that means for nothing. Free; obtained without payment or difficulty. It is however not only used by Zulu, it has been incorporated to modern South African lingo.

Chakalaka

A spicy vegetable dish traditionally served as a sauce or relish with bread, pap, samp, stews or curries


A braai is not complete without chakalaka.
